It’s important to us to work closely with students and teachers from primary school through to university. By engaging with young people at every stage of their education, we aim to raise awareness of renewable energy and help build the skills needed for the future offshore wind workforce. Whether it’s introducing primary pupils to the basics of wind power, supporting secondary students with STEM-focused projects, or collaborating with colleges and universities on industry-linked learning, we believe in making clean energy both accessible and inspiring.
We regularly take part in school visits, careers events, and classroom sessions, as well as offering talks, site visits, and project support for older students studying relevant subjects. We contribute to skills development, work experience opportunities, and curriculum alignment — helping to bridge the gap between education and employment. These activities are all part of our wider commitment to supporting coastal communities and encouraging young people to see a future for themselves in the UK’s growing offshore wind sector.
At Galloper, we’re proud to offer work experience opportunities that give students a real-world insight into the offshore wind industry. These placements are designed to help young people explore potential career paths, develop practical skills, and understand how a major renewable energy project is run — from engineering and environmental management to operations and communications. We ensure our placements are meaningful, inclusive, and tailored to support students at different stages of their education. By opening our doors to the next generation, we aim to inspire future talent and support long-term career development in the region.
The Galloper Introduction to Offshore Wind Careers programme was launched in 2023 with Harwich and Dovercourt High School to provide an in-depth look at what working on a wind farm is like and is aimed at students of any background with a real interest in renewable energy and offshore wind. The programme consists of in-school sessions and visits to the Galloper Operations and Maintenance Facility, over a number weeks. The selected students have the opportunity to see how the wind farm was constructed and what happens in operation on a day-to-day basis. They are able to speak to people that work here and within the wider RWE organisation to understand their career paths that led them to do what they do now. We help the students write CVs and carry out mock interviews, so they gain real life experience for the future.
Embedding ourselves in our communities is important and Galloper regularly hosts and takes part in local and regional events to support skills outreach, community engagement, and support local initiatives. From exhibiting and speaking at careers fairs to hosting coffee mornings, our team is actively involved in connecting with people of all ages and backgrounds. These events give us the chance to share what we do, highlight opportunities in the renewable energy sector, and strengthen relationships with the communities near our operations. By being present and accessible, we aim to inspire interest, answer questions, and build lasting connections that support a just and inclusive energy transition.
