RWE has launched new apprenticeship positions for 2025 across the country, including one at Galloper Wind Farm which is now open locally for applications.
With positions spanning offshore wind technician roles, generation technicians, graduate schemes and year in industry placements. RWE is investing in the development of talent essential to achieving its Net Zero by 2040 ambition. These roles represent RWE’s commitment to building a skilled, diverse workforce to power a sustainable energy future.
RWE’s apprenticeship programme reflects the evolution of careers in the energy sector. From coal-generation apprenticeships over 50 years ago to cutting-edge training for offshore wind and green generation, RWE remains at the forefront of workforce development. RWE currently has 75 apprentices across all programmes, below some of them comment on their career pathways.

RWE’s NVQ Level 3 Wind Turbine Technician apprenticeship scheme first launched in 2012 to generate skilled wind technicians who could meet the growing needs of the offshore wind sector along with helping young locals start a career in one of the fastest growing sectors in the UK. RWE trainee wind turbine technicians are stationed at some of the largest offshore wind farms across the UK including Galloper.
The course offers a comprehensive and well-supported learning programme, with a blend of classroom-based learning and time on-site working with trained technicians. The course lasts for three years, with two of those years in college, followed by a full year hands-on experience whilst training at one of RWE’s offshore wind farm sites.
Apprenticeships play a very important role in bridging the skills gap currently being encountered by the offshore wind industry both locally and nationally. Galloper is pleased to have supported four students through the apprenticeship programme.
As part of your apprenticeship, you will learn how these teams operate, and about the many aspects of wind turbine maintenance. It is a rewarding job that allows you to work on highly advanced machinery in a challenging environment. You could be working at sea, in all weathers and at height, using heavy, complex mechanical and electrical equipment.
On completion of the programme apprentices will achieve an NVQ level 3 in wind turbine operations and maintenance and Level 3 diploma in wind turbine maintenance.
The placements also receive a starting salary of £17,000 in the 1st year, rising to £24,000 in the 3rd year and include pension and private single medical cover.
In December 2022, the RWE Wind Turbine Technician apprenticeship scheme was accredited by the Institution of Engineering and Technology, demonstrating the quality of the programme. The IET has a history dating back to 1871 and is one of the world’s leading professional societies for the engineering and technology community, with circa 170,000 members in 150 countries.
RWE has a dedicated online apprenticeship hub which includes all roles available and some helpful tips and advice for candidates. The company also offers a range of opportunities to add to peoples skills including industrial placement programmes, higher apprentices and fast-track generation technician programmes alongside graduate schemes.
