The Galloper Wind Farm Fund contributes to maintaining the appearance, accessibility and enjoyment of the Suffolk Coast & Heaths Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
Our sponsorship programme supports worthwhile local initiatives while helping to raise awareness of the wind farm.
The Galloper Community Fund was established in 2018 to support communities around the location of the Operations and Maintenance Facility in Harwich, Essex.
Since 2018 £10,000 per year has been awarded to support charitable, educational and environmental activities in the Harwich area. When the wind farm first began operation, the fund was due to run until 2022, in 2024 this was extended to 2026, providing additional funding to support the local area.
Applications to the fund are administered on behalf of Galloper by the Essex Community Foundation.

Essex Community Foundation
Looking after wellbeing in Harwich. Our grant helped CVST to employ a part-time coordinator to launch a new health and well-being centre in Harwich, known as the Dovercourt and Harwich Hub.
Supporting local families in the cost-of-living crisis. Funding to assist the school uniform bank with overheads so that it can expand this service to more families so that more students can feel part of their school community.
Protecting local institutions. This grant provided the employment of an Education and Community Engagement Officer at this historic cinema. Their role is to implement a programme of school visits and public workshops as well as Dementia and Autism Friendly Screenings in partnership with Age UK and Autism Anglia. As well as outreach screenings in partnership with Harwich Homestart, the development of a young film programmers group and the delivery of the Tendring leg of the Into Film Festival.
Year-round cultural activities. Harwich Festival of the Arts Trust has been supported with a grant that funded a part-time administrator to develop year-round cultural activities in the organisation’s new centre.
Celebrating local history through song. Harwich Shanty Festival was awarded funds to run shanty workshops with young children and adults with additional needs.
Support for budding rock stars. We are Music, runs the rock school in Harwich providing lessons and band experience to young musicians. The funds will help them keep student fees down and expand the offering to schools.
Supporting local families in need. The grant allowed The Ark to continue their family and children support projects, counselling service and support for children with additional needs in their pre-school nursery.
The Galloper Wind Farm Fund aims to contribute to the appearance, setting, conservation, amenity, accessibility and enjoyment of the Suffolk Coast & Heaths Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) and the area defined as within a five-kilometre radius of Sizewell (the location of the Galloper onshore substation).
Having started in 2016, a total of £187,000 is available over 17 years. Over £14,000 per year is available through the fund, and grants of up to 100% can be awarded towards project costs. A panel including representatives from Galloper Wind Farm Ltd, Suffolk County Council, East Suffolk Council and Leiston Town Council will meet once a year to assess applications and award grants.

The annual grant awards over £14,000 to projects in and around the AONB. Examples over the years since its establishment include:
Pro Corda Trust, whose permanent home is at Leiston Abbey, is the UK’s leading provider for music residential courses for special needs schools, working extensively with Suffolk’s local communities. The funding supports a project to build and maintain a Sensory Garden at Leiston Abbey to serve the many hundreds of children with additional needs (and most especially autism) who use this holistic heritage site; additionally, to serve as a therapeutic resource for the local community.
A project by Art Branches CIC to support men’s mental health in Leiston area by provision of supported creative projects, to allow for and encouraging expression of self and imagination through a variety of media, such as photography.
The next stage of an initiative by Thorpeness and Aldringham Heritage Group who, after construction, landscaping and internal fit out, will use the funding to erect external signage and do some internal fit out before opening the doors to visitors.
This Suffolk Wildlife Trust project aims to engage children from Leiston Primary School with their coastal environment, specifically in the context of plastic pollution and how their behaviour has an impact on nature.
Wild Beach Leader: A 3-day accredited training course, delivered by Suffolk Wildlife Trust to six teaching staff local to Sizewell Beach to equip them with the expertise to run outdoor, marine based, learning activities to children at their schools.
Erection of a swift tower consisting of an ornately carved pole and nesting chambers, at the grounds of The Eelsfoot Inn, Eastbridge.

These partnerships help raise awareness of the wind farm while allowing us to play an active role in community life. Our sponsorship efforts are focused primarily in the Tendring area, where our Operations & Maintenance Facility is located — a place we consider our home. As such, we’re committed to being a good neighbour by backing activities and causes that matter to the people who live and work around us.
Through our sponsorship activity, we’re proud to back a wide range of local events, groups, and causes that promote education, wellbeing, environmental awareness, and community spirit. Whether it’s supporting grassroots organisations, contributing to local festivals, or helping fund youth development programmes, our goal is to build strong, positive relationships with the communities that surround and support our work. By investing in these initiatives, we’re not just powering homes — we’re helping to power local pride and opportunity too.
Supporting local wildlife. As platinum supporters of Essex Wildlife Trust, Galloper help the organisation in its mission to look after havens for wildlife and protect rare species at risk from vanishing. We are proud to be Investors in Wildlife.
Promoting local culture. This support allows the lead organisers of the carnival; the Harwich and Dovercourt Rotary Club, to allocate all the monies raised to good causes, as the costs of putting on the Carnival are covered. It will also allow Rotary Club and other friends of the Guy Carnival to plan for the future, with more certainty and continue to strengthen this unique and treasured event.
Supporting inclusion within our community. Our funding covered the costs for materials and for a local artist to work with all local primary schools in Harwich and Dovercourt to create a bench along the seafront decorated with mosaics to celebrate inclusivity and diversity. The bench was proudly unveiled at Harwich’s first Inclusivity and Diversity Festival.
Developing access to sport for everyone. We believe that everyone should have the opportunity to pursue their passions. Our sponsorship has been used to support the club and their budding women’s team. Enabling the club to provide a creche facility on training nights and game days to give the team’s members greater access to train and play without having to worry about childcare.
