Offshore Wi-Fi powering efficiency and safety at sea

March 7, 2025

Having offshore access to the internet allows our teams to make wider use of available technology. This means that we can now work more efficiently and take action while out at the wind farm rather than waiting to return to Harwich and finding solutions while onshore. For example, teams can now make video calls or send pictures back instantly to the engineers to show components and work collaboratively to address issues. Technicians can download and complete work instructions and checklists online, and have instant access to large archives of documents, manuals and troubleshooting guides.

Wi-Fi also helps keep our teams safe offshore, opening up a new method of communication, so they always have a variety of options and back-up systems to contact the control room, support teams and even the vessels.

With Wi-Fi being an integral part of our everyday lives in all aspects, availability 30km offshore marks a significant enhancement for operations on the wind farm, providing seamless connectivity in a critical and remote environment. It’s ease of use and accessibility opens up so many options for future upgrades to our systems and to our regular operations, keeping our work efficient, modernised and safe.
