Galloper Offshore Wind Farm Sportive Raises over £10,000 For East Anglian Air Ambulance
20 Jul, 2017

Around 60 team members from Galloper Offshore Wind Farm Ltd cycled or walked along the Suffolk coastline on Wednesday (20th July) raising over £10,000 for the East Anglian Air Ambulance (EAAA) charity.

Blessed by good weather, the Galloper project team, partners and contractors completed either a 60 mile cycle ride from Felixstowe to Lowestoft, or an 18 mile walk from Dunwich to Leiston, raising vital funds for the helicopter emergency medical service.

Toby Edmonds, Galloper Wind Farm Project Director, says, “We had a great day and I’m very proud the team did so well, particularly given the heat! We’re really happy to have been able to support the East Anglian Air Ambulance, and we hope the money raised can help them continue their important, life-saving work across the region.”

Cyclists and walkers convened at the end of the event at Galloper’s new Offshore Construction Coordination Base in Lowestoft, which opened at the OGN facility at the Associated British Ports base in June. Participants were treated to a BBQ and a cheque giving ceremony took place.

Sophie Mathew, Area Fundraising Manager for the EAAA, says “Everyone did really well and there was a great atmosphere. We’re so grateful for Galloper’s support and are thrilled at the amount raised.”

Galloper Offshore Wind Farm is a 336MW extension of the existing and fully operational Greater Gabbard Wind Farm off the coast of Suffolk. Construction is currently underway, and the wind farm is expected to commence operation by March 2018. The average annual energy generation expected at the site could be equivalent to the approximate domestic needs of around 336,000 average UK households.1

Notes to editor

East Anglian Air Ambulance (EAAA) is the charity providing a helicopter emergency medical service (HEMS) for the people of East Anglia, covering Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Norfolk and Suffolk. Since its launch in 2000 it has attended over 16,000 lifesaving missions, touching the lives of many thousands of people. EAAA’s crew comprises specialist pre-hospital doctors and critical-care paramedics, operating out of two high-tech helicopters from 07:00 until 19:00 from its Norwich base and from 07:00 until 01:30 from its Cambridge base. EAAA was the first air ambulance in the country to attend helicopter emergency medical incidents in the hours of darkness to unknown and unlit sites.

Galloper Offshore Wind Farm is an extension of the existing and fully operational Greater Gabbard Wind Farm off the coast of Suffolk. The wind farm represents an expected investment potential of around £1.5 billion. It is estimated that the average annual generation expected at the site will be equivalent to the approximate domestic needs of around 336,000 average UK households. Following Financial Close of the project in October 2015 the GWFL project announced the equal joint equity partnership of 25% each between RWE Innogy UK, UK Green Investment Bank, Siemens Financial Services and Macquarie Capital. RWE Innogy UK is part of RWE International SE. Galloper Offshore Wind Farm is expected to commence operations in March 2018.

RWE International SE (innogy) is one of the leading European energy companies. With its three business areas of Renewables, Grid & Infrastructure as well as Retail, it addresses the requirements of a modern, decarbonised, decentralised and digital energy world. The focus of RWE International SE (innogy)’s activities is on offering existing and potential customers innovative and sustainable products and services which enable them to use energy more efficiently and improve their quality of life. The key markets are Germany, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Belgium and several countries in Central Eastern and South Eastern Europe, especially the Czech Republic, Hungary and Poland. In renewable power generation, the company is also active in other regions, e.g. Spain and Italy. The new subsidiary of RWE AG started operations on 1 April 2016. On 29 June 2016, the name of the European stock company was announced: innogy. The new name is expected to take formal effect as of September 2016, at which time the company as well as its products and services will be gradually rebranded. Until then, the subsidiary will continue under the name RWE International SE. The innogy brand name is a symbiosis of the terms innovation, energy and technology.

Based on the combined financial statements for 2015, the company would have a revenue of around €46 billion and an EBITDA of €4.5 billion. The company is expected to employ around 40,000 out of a total of around 60,000 employees of the RWE Group once the restructuring process has been completed.

1. Energy predicted to be generated by the proposal is derived using wind speeds monitored in the local area and correlating to suitable reanalysis weather data providing longer term data. The calculations are based on an installed capacity of up to 336MW. The energy capture predicted and hence derived homes equivalent or emissions savings figures may change as further data are gathered. Equivalent homes supplied is based on an annual electricity consumption per home of 4500 kWh. This figure is supported by recent domestic electricity consumption data available from The Digest of UK Energy Statistics and household figures from the UK Statistics Authority.
