Harrison Moore joined the RWE and Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy (SGRE) teams at Galloper‘s operations and maintenance base in March. Here is what he had to say about his week:
“My work experience at Galloper has been amazing.
Over the week I have had the chance to experience a diverse range of jobs at Galloper Wind Farm, of which I am thankful for. This has been a fantastic way of helping me understand what my future could be beyond college and into the offshore wind industry.
Since Year 9 I have studied a broad range of subjects like basic maths, English and science but also business, music and wood/metalwork. I decided to keep my options broad as I wasn’t sure what career path I wanted to follow. However, since researching the wind industry and roles involving electrical based engineering, I have been keen to learn as much as I can and work experience at Galloper was an unmissable opportunity.
It has been a busy week, I have learnt about finance, spent time in the control room, worked in stores and shadowed engineers, technicians and other back-office roles. The opportunity to speak with some of the vessel crew and newest apprentices for SGRE was particularly valuable, this has aided me into understanding why and how I should be a part of offshore wind.
From my conversations with apprentices at SGRE and RWE, the maintenance side of offshore operations has interested me a great deal and I am looking forward to applying for an apprenticeship before and after taking A-levels.”
We are very glad that Harrison enjoyed his time with us and gained valuable insight and knowledge of the offshore wind industry. If you are interested in joining us at Galloper Offshore Wind Farm for work experience, please contact galloperwindfarm@rwe.com.
