The Galloper Wind Farm Ltd (GWFL) project team will be in the Leiston area on Friday 10th and Saturday 11th of March to host two drop-in sessions about the Galloper Offshore Wind Farm project. Members of the public and interested parties will be able to find out more about the wind farm, learn about the progress so far with the construction, and hear what’s planned for 2017.

“Construction of the wind farm progressed well in 2016 – work got well underway on the onshore substation infrastructure; the first of two export cables was laid; we started the installation of the turbine foundations; and we opened the Offshore Construction Coordination Base in Lowestoft. We also supported local community projects with the first £15,000 of the £187,000 Galloper Wind Farm Fund, and were very pleased to triple our fundraising target for the East Anglian Air Ambulance by raising £15,000 via our team sportive event in the summer.
“This year, we are looking forward to the second and final export cable being laid and continuing to install the offshore infrastructure; and we will also expect to start construction of our Operations and Maintenance Base in Harwich. There will be more information on all of this at the drop-in sessions, where we look forward to meeting local residents.”
GWFL will continue to support the region’s future engineers through internships and involvement in local educational initiatives. In 2016, members of the Galloper team took park in a STEM day at Ormiston Academy in Lowestoft, and, along with James Fisher and Sons, hosted two interns from Lowestoft Sixth Form College as part of the East Coast Energy Internship programme.
The £187,000 Galloper Wind Farm Fund, available over 17 years, supports projects that contribute to the appearance, setting, conservation, amenity, accessibility and enjoyment of the Suffolk Coast & Heaths Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Galloper Offshore Wind Farm is an extension of the existing and fully operational Greater Gabbard Wind Farm off the coast of Suffolk. 700 jobs are being created during construction of the wind farm and up to a 100 overall, once operational. The average annual generation expected from the 336MW project is estimated to be equivalent to the approximate domestic needs of around 336,000 average UK households1. The wind farm is expected to commence operation by March 2018.
The drop-in sessions are being held on Friday 10th March from 4pm to 7pm and Saturday 11th March from 10am to 1pm at the café at Beach View Holiday Park, Sizewell Common, Leiston, IP16 4TU.

Galloper Wind Farm Limited
Galloper offshore wind farm is an extension of the existing and fully operational Greater Gabbard Wind Farm off the coast of Suffolk. The wind farm represents an expected investment potential of around £1.5 billion. It is estimated that the average annual generation expected at the site will be equivalent to the approximate domestic needs of around 336,000 average UK households. Following Financial Close of the project in October 2015 the GWFL project announced the equal joint equity partnership of 25% each between RWE Innogy (now innogy SE), UK Green Investment Bank, Siemens Financial Services and Macquarie Capital. Construction of the project recommenced in November 2015. Galloper Offshore Wind Farm will commence operations in March 2018. 1 Energy predicted to be generated by the proposal is derived using wind speeds monitored in the local area and correlating to suitable reanalysis weather data providing longer term data. The calculations are based on an installed capacity of up to 336MW. The energy capture predicted and hence derived homes equivalent or emissions savings figures may change as further data are gathered. Equivalent homes supplied is based on an annual electricity consumption per home of 4500 kWh. This figure is supported by recent domestic electricity consumption data available from The Digest of UK Energy Statistics and household figures from the UK Statistics Authority.
