Information evening in Leiston – Meet the team.
On the 13th February, the Galloper Team will be hosting an Information Evening in Leiston United Church from 4.00pm – 8.pm. The team will be on hand to provide a project up date and explain some proposed changes to the onshore electrical infrastructure in Sizewell. We hope that you can join us on the day.
Project Revisions
Since receiving consent for Galloper Wind Farm, the enabling works (works such as fencing, drainage, archaeology and landscaping) have been approved by Suffolk Coastal District Council and minimal ecology works have been undertaken at the onshore site in Sizewell to protect local habitat.
The team has also reviewed the project and the joint venture partners (SSE and RWE Innogy UK) have decided to progress the project to the next milestone with a reduced capacity of 340MW rather than 505MW. This would still represent a significant investment in much needed clean energy infrastructure
This would still represent a significant investment in much needed clean energy infrastructure that could generate enough clean energy to meet the estimated equivalent needs of 330,0001 average UK households.
This revision could mean some changes and reductions to the onshore infrastructure. Galloper Wind Farm Ltd will be submitting a planning application to
Suffolk Coastal District Council in relation to the consented Sizewell B substation.
1. The consented “Leiston B” substation for Galloper may no longer be needed
2. The consented haul road south of the site may no longer be needed
3. A smaller area of land outside of the Sizewell Wents woodland could now be used instead due to a smaller footprint required for the substation
Whilst we already have planning consent for the electrical infrastructure for Galloper Wind Farm, a reduction in the project has allowed for the possible optimisation of the onshore infrastructure.
We will be submitting a planning application to Suffolk Coastal District Council. If we are unsuccessful in this new application we will progress with the plans already consented.
